The 21 day self-healing is considered to be a standard practice by a large number of Reiki teachers and training schools across the globe.

I recently heard from a fellow Reiki practitioner that the 21 day self-healing is not considered mandatory by some teachers. The Reiki Attunement opens up the energy channel. This can cause life force energy to gush through the body and energy field. The system (after attunement to any level of Reiki) is required to adapt to a new level of energy. Consistent practice over a period of time helps the system integrate the higher levels of energy more effectively.

Energy Cleansing

Reiki is energy work. As you establish a conscious connection with your life force energy, anything that isn’t serving your growth and evolution will come up to be healed and released. This process is called energy cleansing.

For a lot of people, the attunement itself can be sufficient to kickstart a process of cleansing. When you practice consistently for 21 days post the attunement, you allow sufficient time for the process of cleansing to take place with ease.

It is also important to note that cleansing is not restricted to 21 days. It can go on for months and years. Healing is a lifelong journey! That’s exactly why practicing Reiki consistently even post 21 days is a good thing to do. However, the least anyone can do is 21 days.

Routine Building for Long-Term Healing

During my training programs, some people have been apprehensive about completing even the 21-day process with ease, forget practicing Reiki for life. However, the fact that it was a mandatory part of training made them push themselves to do it. Once they completed the 21 days successfully, they said it wasn’t as hard as they thought, that self-healing has now become a part of their daily routine and that they also look forward to their ‘Reiki Time’ each day!
