The sacral chakra is an energy centre located in the pelvic region.

The health of the sacral chakra is primarily associated with the following-

  1. Emotional Awareness, Intelligence & Management
  2. Sensuality and sexuality
  3. Ability to flow with life
  4. Flexibility
  5. Creative potential
  6. Ability to accept and feel the various pleasures of being human

This is a very important energy centre and one in which many people carry wounds and blocks. As a species, we have a long way to go in developing the health of the sacral chakra – especially in the areas of emotional development and sexuality.

If we are willing to radically alter the way we view our emotions and sexuality and work towards healing our wounds in these departments, we can free up a lot of stagnant energy within our system and move towards greater harmony and balance.

In this article, let’s look at some ways in which we can heal the blocks we may have in these two areas.

Training In Emotional Intelligence & Management

While we all know the names of varied emotions, we are not always comfortable with feeling many of them. We may have no trouble feeling happy, excited, or peaceful, but may judge ourselves or others when anger comes in. Some of us may not be comfortable feeling sad. Maybe we believe feeling sad is a sign of weakness. Emotions like jealousy and envy are considered even more taboo.

When we feel uncomfortable emotions, our inner critic may say-
“You are such a good person. How can you feel angry? Shake it off before it takes you over.” Or
“Are you a child? How can you feel jealous? Grow up kiddo!”

Since most of us have not received training in emotional intelligence, coupled with the fact that we may be conditioned to see some emotions as ‘bad,’ we feel terrified when our inner critic begins to talk. And we pretend like some of our darker emotions don’t exist!

But the truth (no matter how much we may deny it), is that all of us feel a range of emotions from time to time – positive and negative.

Today, we have greater access to resources on the psychology of emotions and their effective management.

Giving ourselves permission to feel ALL of our emotions without judgment is key to healthy emotional development. However, feeling our darker emotions doesn’t mean we have the right to take it out on others or to be destructive in any way. That is just not acceptable.

Feeling darker emotions means we acknowledge it to our own selves first, and if required, to professionals and people we love and trust. When we acknowledge and feel them, they move freely through our energy body and automatically lose their charge in the process. They don’t bottle up inside and create imbalance.
