There are lots of Reiki masters out there. Each has his own understanding of what Reiki is and what are its uses. Different types of reiki attunement emerged as a consequence. If you’re a beginner, knowing about them is important for choosing which ones suit you best.
You can opt to choose from 30 types of Reiki attunement practices. Of course, the subcategories or branches that are indirectly related to reiki are excluded. Therefore, there are “mini-reiki” practices aside from the 30 known types of Reiki attunement. Choosing is up to you.
However, there are two types which we highly recommend – Kundalini reiki and Usui reiki. Today we will Talk about Kundalini reiki and Usui reiki. We’ll give you their definition, founders, and differences.
Who’s The Founder?
The founder of Kundalini reiki is Ole Gabrielsen. He’s a Scandinavian healer with over 20 years of experience in the field of Reiki attunement.
Aside from Kundalini, other famous projects of his are full-spectrum light reiki and original reiki.
Master Gabrielsen is credible. He’s done various seminars across the globe and is continuing to share his expertise at present.
Ole’s fateful encounter with Master Kuthumi (Koot Hoomi) led to the creation of Kundalini Reiki.
Master Kuthumi is a Hindu master and most of his teachings had nothing to do with Reiki attunement.
However, Ole saw that an aspect of Hindu practice called the Kundalini relates to Reiki attunement. Thus, he attempted to unify the wisdom behind reiki attunement and Kundalini.
The result is the Kundalini which is one of Ole’s most influential works.

What Is Kundalini Reiki?
In Hinduism, Kundalini is a type of life force energy. For unawakened people, it’s found lying dormant at the base of the spine.
On the other hand, kundalini opens up other chakra channels for awakened people. Kundalini awakening has several benefits. One of these is an enlightened consciousness.
However, only a few have the ability to get a grip on kundalini awakening in a short amount of time. There’s no specific length.
However, the process of awakening takes patience and dedication. As one master puts it, ” Kundalini awakening can be as long as counting the particles of sand on a jar”.
This is where reiki comes into play. In Kundalini Reiki, practitioners utilize reiki to hasten the activation of Kundalini.
Practitioners state that reiki has the ability to unlock chakra channels in the body which restrict or prevent the fast activation of Kundalini. Usually, unlocking these channels takes years of meditation.

What Is Usui Reiki
Usui Reiki is one of the earliest forms of reiki attunement. It’s a type of reiki practice that primarily focuses on healing.
Masters transfer their reiki energy to initiate the process of attunement for practitioners.
Healing is done by circulating reiki throughout the body to open several chakra channels in the body.
Aside from energy transfer, Masters of Usui reiki use symbols or talisman. Talismans or symbols are important in the practice of Usui reiki because they allow for the efficient utilization of the universal energy.
The symbols or talisman that masters use are as follows:
- power symbol – for purification and improving focus
- harmony symbol – for emotional and pyschological healing
- distance symbol – for building a spiritual connection
- master symbol – often used in combination with distance and harmony symbols during energy transfer
- completion symbol – for ending the process of energy transfer from master to the practitioner
How Do Kundalini Reiki and Usui Reiki Differ In Terms of Origin?
Usui reiki came first before kundalini reiki. It’s also important to note that the foundations of Kundalini reiki might have come from Usui Reiki.
Moreover, Usui Reiki has its grassroots in Asia since its founder is Japanese. Kundalini Reiki is more western as its founder came from Europe.
Also, the philosophies that form the backbone of Usui Reiki comes from older reiki attunement practices in Japan.
On the other hand, the backbone of Kundalini Reiki comes from reiki attunement practices that western masters taught to practitioners.
