Green Clay Cleansing Face Mask

All right! I always used to stay away from green clay because the pre-made ones I tried were probably the wrong one for my skin, I used to have tightness and dryness afterwards. So I thought OK, green clay is probably not a good idea for my dryish skin. But dry skin still needs to have some cleansing, and the tricky part here is that you need to make it really gentle not to damage it.

So I was searching and experimenting and I really loved the oat cleansing mask, it is my all time favorite. I really love the way my skin feels and looks afterwards.

But recently a friend of mine shared with me her green clay. The same day I started looking for some ideas on how to make it. Of course I had to modify it according to my skin type and my own preferences. But the result was way better than I was expecting it to be.

Firstly, green clay is great for detoxifying and cleansing the skin. Usually it is recommended for its cleansing properties for oily and acne prone skin, but if mixing right it can also be used on dry skin.

The recipe is very easy to make, as I already mentioned I modified the traditional recipe by playing around with ingredients and the result ended up just fantastic. I basically added a little bit of carrier oil to make it softer and more gentle to my skin. Also I added a few drops of essential oils to enhance my face mask with extra cleansing properties.

Recipe:

  • green clay – 1 tea spoon
  • aloe vera gel – 1/2 tea spoon
  • rose water – 2 tea spoons
  • macadamia nut oil – 1/2 tea spoon
  • lavender essential oil – 1 drop
  • manuka essential oil – 1 drop

Mix all of the ingredients till the creamy paste. I always recommend mixing essential oils with carrier oil first then add it to other ingredients and mix them together. If you do not have macadamia oil you can use other carrier oil of your choice. essential oils I chose both are fantastic in supporting a healthy looking skin and are known to have cleansing properties (essential oils with similar properties frankincense, copaiba, lemon, orange, cedarwood, blue cypress, rosemary, tea tree, eucalyptus, myrrh, myrtle, elemi).

Apply on a clean skin for about 15 mins. After some time the clay will start dry out, simply dip your fingers into the water and wet your face, or spray your face with some hydrosol or flower water.

Once its time, wash your face with a sponge or face cloth, do not scrub or use extra cleansing material. Apply moisturizer.
