My Top 6 Oils For Face

I have been making my own facial oils for a year now. It’s pretty simple, probably one of the simplest thing to make. But from the very beginning my concerns were about which base or carrier oil to use for the face without making it feeling heavy or greasy or clogging pores. Because my whole point was to nourish my skin and make it look and feel better not the opposite.

After some research was done, and after personal tries I can now name some of my favorite base oils for the face. These are jojoba, argan, sweet almond, rosehip, baobab and macadamia nut oil. Of course other oils like wheatgerm or avocado (and many more) are for sure extremely beneficial, but they are more heavy in a texture and better to be used as an addition to the whole blend.

Jojoba wax, which is also known as jojoba oil, is highly penetrating and moisturizing. It is very close to our own sebum (skin oil) by its molecular structure. It is ideal as a base and can be used instead of moisturizing cream. Jojoba wax contains vitamin E, minerals, skin nourishing fatty acids and antioxidants. It is ideal for the face and fits any skin type. The texture is pretty light, jojoba absorbs fast without leaving any oily residue. Jojoba wax does not clog pores. It does not go rancid. In fact it can extend the shelf life of other oils in a blend. Jojoba wax has very mild aroma.

Argan oil comes originally from Morocco and was traditionally used by local ladies to treat skin diseases and also as a cosmetic oil for skin and hair. Argan oil is naturally rich in oleic, linoleic, palmitic, stearic, linolinic fatty acids and vitamin E, which are known to be very beneficial to the skin. Argan oil has great anti-aging properties. It softens and moisturizes the skin, helps to maintain natural skin’s elasticity, helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and it doesn’t clog pores. Argan oil is very light in its consistency, which I really love, can be use on its own as a moisturizer. It has nutty aroma. Better use unrefined oil in order to benefit from it in all capacity.

Sweet Almond oil is another wonderful oil. It is great in moisturizing and nourishing the skin, it leaves the skin soft and smooth, which I like (I have normal to dry skin). It contains vitamins A, B and E, minerals and essential fatty acid. Almond oil promotes a healthy looking skin, is helpful in improving the tone of the skin. By the texture it is moderately light, good for dry, normal or mature skin, for oily skin I’d use it in a combination with more light oil like argan or jojoba. It has slightly nutty aroma. If you have nut allergy do a test first on your skin, it may create a reaction.
