The laying on of hands
One of the things that Jesus was famed for was healing the sick, mostly by laying his hands on them. In the book of Luke (chapter 4, verse 40) it says “When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hand on each one, he healed them.”
Mattew 14, verses 14 to 15 tells us that Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever by laying his hands on her. In both Mark and Luke, there are accounts of a time when he laid hands on a leper and healed him. The four Gospels, in fact, are filled with descriptions of Jesus laying hands on the blind, the lame, the deaf, along with a whole list of other illnesses and conditions, in order to heal them.
Not only did he do this himself, but he also suggested that his disciples go out and do it too. John chapter 14, verse 12, says “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father.”
The message is clear; I have been healing people, but now I am going away. So it’s up to you to go and lay hands on people to heal them. You will be able to do this, and more!
Jesus expected his disciples to follow his example. When he ascended to heaven, he told them that they would receive the Holy Spirit, which would bestow a whole range of special gifts upon them – healing included.
The problem with dogma
Christians who argue against Reiki do so from their own interpretation of the scriptures. Their dogma, as they see it, prohibits anything that seems contrary to the will of God.
